Pranayama is often framed as ‘out of reach’ for the modern practitioner or detached from modern life. Yet, never has the power of this lost art been more necessary. Chronic stress is at an all-time high and there’s no denying the pitfalls of modern life pulling us away from our evolutionary roots.

Breath is the superpower that re-establishes balance at our very essence. The alchemy of breath (i.e chemical reaction of oxygen + carbon dioxide) is the barometer for every other system of the body to gauge correct level response. That means, if we want balanced hormones or good immunity, first we need to balance the biochemistry of our breath.

Breath Circle is not about rote learning techniques. Rather, you will learn the core principles of pranayama to apply to any practice for a chosen effect. The aim is to be empowered as the curator of your own practice and learn to confidently manipulate your breath for wide ranging effects. This includes boosting mental clarity, heightening creativity and self-awareness, processing stored emotions, increasing immunity, and reducing stress.

BREATH CIRCLE BACK STORY

Always liked the idea of breath work but never had it delivered to you on a plate that actually wet your appetite? 

My first taste of breathwork was in Thailand about 7 years ago. For 3 months we sat for 1 hour of pranayama/ yogic breath practices per day. The sessions gave me so much energy that I barely needed to sleep. My energy was buzzing, my skin was glowing and I felt a sense of deep ease and fluidity as I moved through my day. I was totally high on a breath-infused abundance of life. 

However, when I returned back to Australia my breath practices shrunk back down to fit inside the four corners of my daily asana practice. The sudden shift out from island life stunted my capacity to apply the tools that were so prominent in ashram-style living. I had tasted the transformative power of breath and yet didn't have the systems in place to marry the magic tools with my lifestyle back home. 

It wasn’t until life threw some curve balls that I began to lean on breath practices more fully. Breath after all is the primal tool for meeting intensity. Often we are intuitively drawn to the breath when we are either about to go through a big life shake-up or still wading through the sediment of an intense realignment. This was the case for me. Breath was intuitively the force, the tool that I knew would help me bridge the gap.

A morning breath practice is as necessary to me as breakfast, and I sprinkle a myriad of short techniques throughout my day.

When I wake up I use breath to stoke my metabolism; when I go to sleep I use breath to lull me into a full night of deep and restful sleep. The impacts are immediate, huge, simple, accessible and the most transformative and powerful source I've ever used to tap into my body’s own healing mechanisms.

I decided to create Full Body Breath Circle to share the magic of these practices with others, in a format where it practice could break free of the confines of a yoga mat and live richly in the lively silence of any and every breath. My intension is to inspire an EXCITEMENT about this ancient art, that in most modern yoga classes is largely missed. 

I always think if someone spent time around me, I would love them to walk away and just feel ‘being around her felt like resonating at the sweet vibration of pure breath'.

To come back to breath is to trust life has got our back.
